New playlist format - Automatically add your videos to TFM playlists! Print E-mail

After monkeying around a bit with the Relist.tv playlist generator for YouTube, we've developed a way for you to auto-add your videos to our playlists here at TFM.  This will allow us to regularly update the TFMtv section of the site once again because, you, not us will be the ones making sure that your videos find their way onto this site.

Here's how it works, using March's First Friday Shorts show as an example:

•Step 1 ::  Place the event code into the 'description' AND 'tag' section of your video post on YouTube.  The code for March 2009 would be "FFSMARCH2009"

•Step 2 ::  The Relist.tv playlist generator will automatically pull every video on YouTube that has "FFSMARCH2009" in its description and add it to the player

•Step 3 ::  Here's the result:

This div will be replaced by the player. Do not remove.

You'll notice that right now there is only 1 video in there (if more videos appear then that means some of you filmmakers are using the new system!), and that's because I invented the code system and therefore nobody else that entered the FFS show this month knew to put this into their videos' description...  but, now you do!  So put the tag in there and let it auto-add!

YouTube-a-Rama... viral video in glorious widescreen! Print E-mail

Forgive me if this is old news, but it looks like YouTube is finally supporting widescreen (16:9) anamorphic video!  I've noticed that some movie trailers on the popular video site start off with a 'squeeze' thumbnail image only to correct itself to a letterbox format once the video starts playing.  Well, as it turns out, YouTube has implimented a system that automatically letterboxes 16:9 video to their 4:3 on-site display.  This is cool in its own right, sure, but the real fun comes with the customization of the embedable players!

Building a superhero costume Print E-mail

You know, one thing I never thought I would do is walk into a ballet supply store and buy a leotard.  Oh, what a crazy world we live in.  I've been working on a film that my buddy Roman Rodriguez wrote called Batman's Bad Day, and as the title suggests the film is filled with superheroes.

I contemplated heading over to Creative Costumes and picking up some off-season Halloween costumes for the characters (running about $60 each for the adult sizes) but decided against it, opting to go for a more authentic look.

HD-DVD Dead? Print E-mail

It's true, according to Ain't It Cool News .  So how does this affect you?

Well, for starters, it means that HD DVD players and discs will see massive price cuts in the near future.  I think we may have mentioned something about that already, btw.  If you already own an HD DVD player, consider it your new upconvert player...  but unlike Betamax and Laserdisc, that means it's still useful!

Local computer retailer CompUSA is shutting its doors, but not before they take a shot at ripping you off.  The store, located on Stone (just south of River), has been advertising their 'store-closing' sale for what seems like forever.  And, no, the unbelievably massive discounts of up to...  get this...  40% (!) isn't the 'ripoff' we're talking about.
