That little bad boy is your ticket to having your pulse on all of Tucson's filmmaking events.  And YOU are OUR ticket to making sure that this pulse that everyone keeps talking about keeps making noise.  The TFM calendar is editable by anyone, so it's not just the TFM staff that'll be posting information about local events - it'll be you as well!  Feel free to post info about your film's next screening, a casting call, a festival, etc.

It's true, according to Ain't It Cool News .  So how does this affect you? 

Well, for starters, it means that HD DVD players and discs will see massive price cuts in the near future.  I think we may have mentioned something about that already, btw.  If you already own an HD DVD player, consider it your new upconvert player...  but unlike Betamax and Laserdisc, that means it's still useful! 

Having experienced a recent dry spell in terms of submitted content, The Loft's monthly short film showdown was in need of a fresh batch of films that could give people something to make some noise about.  Thankfully, February's show was able to deliver.

I am growing a strike beard. Many questions have arisen. Micah, are you opposed to meaningful relationships with women your age? People still grow beards? You look like a homeless bear!?  Are you just following a moronic trend trying to be fashionable  not realizing that the “cool” period  has already passed by and now everyone is just laughing at you, including your mom? The answer is yes…to all of them.

Phew. The holidays churned past in a blur of food and drink with family and friends, a happy blur it was, but I didn’t get much work done. And it seems that Tucson’s filmmakers did not get much work done either because January’s Loft contest was not a high point. On the other hand, January is historically the slowest month for the contest, and there were few standout films.

Deck the Loft with a wacky-flick-mix and get your jolly on. Just when you think you can’t be surprised or offended anymore, you get a night like two Fridays ago, the December First Friday Shorts, and you are happily reminded that expectations are born to be broken. The night took me back to Loft contest days of yore, to the first time I saw Dennis the Red’s “Naga Baba” (wherefore art thou, Dennis?) and felt like the world was turned sideways and reborn all at once. I do love surprises.
